In Memory

David Douglass

David Douglass

Dave Douglass, working for the County of Yolo Public Works Department, died in a workplace accident on May 8, 1996.   There are two memorials to him in Woodland. The first one is at the Douglass Middle School (the school is named for our father, Harold Douglass) put in by his good friend Bruce Dumars.  The other one is the David Douglass Park at W. El Dorado and Road 98.

David played trumpet in the woodland high band with me; we got to know each other as a result. He was an easy going guy who had a cute sister, Anne, who I dated once or twice. I remember they had lost their mom some years before and their dad was raising them. They lived just across the streat from Beamer School.  Harold, their dad, was also a very good guy. Anne is most likely still alive but I dont know where she lives. Saw her once at one of our reunions at the Fliers Club. Just very nice people.    tony

Dave was one of the first guys I met after moving to Woodland in the summer of '61.  He made a point of introducing me to others in the (soon to be) senior class, and helped me to "fit in" right away.  I'll always be grateful for his genuine friendship.  His folks welcomed me into their home, and I've got to admit I developed a terrible crush on his sister - definitely the cutest girl in the sophomore class!

I visited with Dave and his family in the early '90's and they seemed really happy - they were in a beautiful home and Dave was working in the landscaping department for Yolo County and involved in the kind of work that he had always wanted to do.

I was very sorry to hear about his passing, and regretted not learning of it in time to attend his memorial service.  Dave was a real friend and apparently a great family man too.  I'm sure he is missed.
