Brenda Louise (Earl) Jones-Smith

Brenda was born in Woodland, the daughter of Orra Harvey Earl and Estella (Logan) Earl. Brenda received Christ at an early age and was a member of the Second Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Woodland High School in the class of 1961. She studied stenography at a business college in Riverside. In 1962, Brenda married Willis Paul Jones, II and to this union they had three sons: Willis Paul, III, Phil, and Anthony.
Brenda's professional career started when she worked for Student Affairs at UC Davis. She had a 32-year career working for the state of California, first in the Legislature as a district office manager; the state Assembly, and for the Office of the Senate as a senior consultant.
Brenda belonged to many organizations: Woodland JUSD Governing Board, Board of Directors for the California School Boards Association, Executive Board of the Coalition of California Black School Board Members, Executive Board of the Yolo County School Boards Assoc. She also was awarded many honors for her years of service in several organizations.
Brenda is survived by her husband Rubeun (Rudy) Smith; sons Willis Paul Jones, III (Casandra); Phil, and Anthony; two step-daughters Tiffany Smith-Simmons (Lance), Elk Grove, Whitney J. Smith, of Houston, Texas; niece and surrogate daughter Carol Williams Elswick, of Glendora; sister Adel Earl Sims, of Indio; three grandchildren, Logan, Willis Paul Jones IV, Cole Maitlen; uncle Carver D. Logan, of Honolulu, Hawaii; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and many friends.
Services were held July 6, at Kyles Temple AME Church, Sacramento.
