Mike was born on March 5, 1943, in Seattle, WA. His parents Bill and Dorothy settled in Woodland, where he spent the remainder of his life. Mike passed away on Dec. 26, 2016 after a lengthy illness at the age of 73.
Mike began his first job at age 12, riding his bike to a nearby farm to drive a harvester. He was a dedicated employee and had a long career at Mobil Chemical (Kordite), starting at the bottom and working his way up to mechanical engineer. The plant closed and Mike retired but continued to stay active working part time for his daughter at Souza's Lettering.
As much as Mike liked working, he loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was in his element hosting friends and family at his trailer at Dillon's Beach, where most of his time was spent fishing or just hanging out.
In his later years, Mike enjoyed traveling with his wife, Joan. Almost every trip they went on included water, either by cruise ship or float plane. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
Mike will be missed by his wife, Joan; children, Michael Washburn Jr. (Kim), Monica Lopez (Tom) and Carrie Prasad (Birend); grandchildren, Rory and Keara Washburn, Jamie and Kaitlyn Schneider, and Daniela and Claudia Ocampo; and his canine companion, Molly.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Bill Washburn and Dorothy Anderson, and his grandson, Sean Michael Schneider.
A celebration of life will be held on Jan. 13, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Washburn residence. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Yolo Food Bank, Yolo Hospice or a charity of donor's choice.
